ABOUT JEROME CARRINGTON
Meet the Musicologist
Jerome Carrington was born in Ancon in the Panama Canal Zone. At the age of 13 he began his career as cellist with the National Symphony Orchestra of Panama. He completed his musical studies at the Eastman School of Music, where he was first cellist of the Eastman School Symphony Orchestra. His teachers were Allison Mackown, Luigi Silva and Frank Miller.
Mr. Carrington is former principal cellist of the Indianapolis Symphony, the Oklahoma City Symphony, and the New Jersey Symphony. He has appeared as soloist with orchestra, in solo recitals and chamber music concerts, and as assisting artist on recitals of his wife, the mezzo-soprano Elaine Bonazzi.
Mr. Carrington was for many years an active free-lance cellist in New York City and a member of the cello faculty of The Juilliard School. Carrington has written and published various works on music, including his first book Trills in the Bach Cello Suites: A Handbook for Performers as well as articles on music for The Strad, Strings, and The Juilliard Journal. Now he resides in upstate New York, while keeping his avid passion for music alive through research. He continues to share his love for music and the natural beauty of his country home’s landscape with his loving wife Elaine.
